Summer is slowly coming to an end, and with it comes the beginnings of a whirlwind of college application prep. Students who are aiming for early admission should be studying for the ACT and SAT, as well as starting to gather materials such as letters of recommendation, practice essays, and Scholarships among other things to begin the application season. There's a lot that happens during this time, and in this blog post we're breaking down upcoming dates for the class of 2025 to help keep you on track while applying early.
August 1
Most students intending to apply to more than one college have heard of Commonapp. Commonapp is a website that standardizes much for college applications to simplify writing out much of the same information more than once. It provides a space to organzie each application in one place and makes it easy to apply to most colleges. Commonapp will be open starting August 1st and will close November 1st for early decision along with colleges who don't use Commonapp. It closes again on January 15th for regular decision.
August 9
Registration closes for the September ACT and the last August SAT. There are many more registration times available for later testing dates, however those who want to apply for early admission should plan on taking the standardized tests as early as they feel comfortable. The SAT and ACT have been reinstated as required parts of admission for several colleges, and also open up different scholarship opportunities not previously available. Taking the test early also allows students to focus on other aspects of their application process instead of studying, and gives ample time to retake if necessary. The test dates are August 24th for the SAT and September 14th for the ACT. The next registration date is September 20th for the ACT, with the test date being October 26th.
November 1
This date is the deadline to apply for early decision. Students have until 11:59pm on November first to submit all applications, either through Commonapp or through the college website. We recommend doing so earlier than this date, as many students tend to submit on the last day and have caused website crashes or significant delays. To avoid unneeded stress, turn in your applications early!
